Teen Arrested In Springfield Town Center Shooting

Franconia Police District – Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau have charged a juvenile male suspect following a non-fatal shooting that left one man hospitalized in Springfield.

On February 13 at approximately 5:34 p.m., officers responded to the 6500 block of Springfield Mall for a reported shooting. Officers located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Preliminarily, there was an argument between the suspect and the victim, during which the suspect produced a firearm and shot the victim. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.

Responding officers immediately saturated the area, quickly located and arrested the suspect in the parking garage. A second juvenile was also taken into custody in connection with an associated assault. A firearm was recovered on the scene.

Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau responded and have assumed the investigation.

The suspect was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was charged with Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Discharging a Firearm Within a Building, Removing or Altering a Serial Number, and Possession of a Firearm by Someone Under 18. He is being held pending his detention hearing.
