Community Lodgings is holding the fundraiser to benefit homeless families.

From Community Lodgings: Community Lodgings is hosting its Tee Off To End Homelessness FUNdraiser on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at TopGolf Alexandria, 6625 South Van Dorn Street, Alexandria, VA 22315 from 2-5 p.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased on EventBrite (https://bit.ly/2GQusrP) and donations are accepted for individuals who are unable to attend. All skill levels are welcome, and a Mix & Mingle package is available for non-golfers. The event will include food, open bar, and prizes.
“Most people never sit down and get to know someone who is homeless, but they are just like you and me, they just have a different story,” said Lynn Thomas, Executive Director, Community Lodgings. “The truth is that many homeless individuals work every day, but do not make enough money to afford the basic necessities such as housing and food.
According to Alexandria’s 2018 Point-In-Time Count of homeless families and individuals, the majority of homeless adults with children reported that they were employed in 2018, and 72 percent of those employed earned $1,001 and above per month. The count also indicated that the number of individuals facing challenges like substance abuse, mental health disorders, physical disabilities, a history of foster care, limited English proficiency, chronic health conditions, and Veteran status increased from 2017 - 2018, but that may indicate that more individuals in those categories are gaining access to support.
“Support for transitional housing programs is necessary if we are going to change the landscape of for homeless families and individuals. Our organization works tirelessly to combat homelessness but we cannot do it without the support of the community”, Thomas added. “This fundraiser is a fun and interactive way to get the community involved.”
