Update: Autopsy Results Released in Fatal Police Car Accident

A 26-year-old man died in the April 2 collision near the Hilltop Village shopping center.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County prosecutors are reviewing the results of an autopsy conducted on a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a Fairfax County police cruiser on April 2.

The accident occurred late on a Saturday night on Beulah Street near the Hilltop Village shopping center. The victim, Jeff Ponce Aguilar, 26, was crossing the street on his way home from work.

A GoFundMe page was set up for his family to cover his funeral expenses, with a goal of $7,000. In two months, the website raised $17,619 from 305 donors.

Detectives from the Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the fatal crash, the department said Tuesday.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner passed along the autopsy results Monday to the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fairfax County. "The case will be collectively reviewed and a final disposition will be determined," the department announced in a statement.

The officer who drove the police car in the April 2 collision is a two-year veteran of the department assigned to the Franconia District Station, according to the police.
