Police: Craigslist Sale Ends in iPhone Theft (Video)

Do you recognize this man? Police say he stole an iPhone and got into a waiting dark-gray-colored Mercedes Benz C-300 in Springfield.


Fairfax County Crime Solvers is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a man who stole a cell phone from a person who advertised the phone on Craigslist, according to police.

The victim placed an ad to the website to sell an iPhone 6 and the suspect agreed to meet the victim on Tuesday, August 4, around 2:10 p.m., at a Starbucks, located at 8068 Rolling Road (see map below).

The suspect and victim met inside the store and briefly discussed the phone and its price, police said. When the victim looked away, the suspect snatched the phone off the table and ran out of the store, according to Fairfax County Police. The victim gave chase but the suspect was able to enter a waiting dark-gray-colored Mercedes Benz C-300, police said. The car fled from the parking lot, northbound on Rolling Road.

Surveillance video inside the store captured the suspect purchasing a drink prior to the victim’s arrival (watch video below). Detectives are hopeful someone will recognize this man. He was described as either Hispanic or Pacific Islander. He was about 5 feet 6 inches tall, approximately 150 pounds, with black hair and glasses that had a green/yellow tint.
