What's Open, Closed For Labor Day 2022 In Kingstowne
As Labor Day weekend approaches, here are the holiday closures and events to know around Kingstowne.
KINGSTOWNE, VA — Residents will bid farewell to summer as the season unofficially ends with Labor Day weekend. As families hold backyard barbecues or head to the beach for some late summer fun, there will be various closures for the holiday.
Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 5, when Fairfax County government offices will be closed along with other services. Some other services like transit will be open with schedule changes.
If you're looking for something to do, some of the region's events will include Sting at Wolf Trap, the Labor Day Car Show in Fairfax, National Book Festival in DC, LoCo Kid's Fest in Leesburg, DC JazzFest in DC and $3 movies for National Cinema Day. It's also the last weekend for many pools and splash parks in the region.

If you're staying around Kingstowne for the Labor Day holiday, here are the openings and closings to know about:
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Monday, Sept. 5.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools are closed for Labor Day break from Sept. 2 to 5.
Kingstowne Residential Owners Corporation: The business office will be closed on Sept. 5. The Snyder and Thompson fitness centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 5. Pools are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Sept. 5, the last day of the season.
Courts: The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court will be closed on Sept. 5.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are typically closed on Labor Day.
Fairfax Connector: Fairfax Connector will have Sunday service on Sept. 5. The following routes will operate on a Sunday schedule: 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. Libraries: On Sept. 5, the Kingstowne Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.
Metro: Metro will run on a Sunday holiday schedule on Sept. 5 from 7 a.m. to midnight. Metro has closed five Orange Line stations between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton through Sept. 5. On Sept. 2, 5 and 6, the Green Line will have single tracking between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road. On Sept. 5 to 8, the Red Line will have single tracking after 10 p.m. between Silver Spring and Forest Glen. Check back for detailed weekend Metrorail information here.
Park authority: Colvin Run Mill and Sully Historic Site are closed on Sept. 5, the nature centers at E.C. Lawrence, Hidden Oaks, Hidden Pond and Huntley Meadows are closed. The Riverbend Park visitor center will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Frying Pan Farm Park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. but the visitor center is closed and indoor arena from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Green Spring Gardens Horticultural House and Historic House are closed on Sept. 5.
Post offices: Closed on Sept. 5.
Recreation centers: All rec centers are open regular hours to 6 p.m. on Sept. 5, except George Washington Rec Center, which is closed.
Trash and recycling: Fairfax County collection customers will have collection services on Sept. 5. Private collection customers should check with their hauler for any changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The Recycling and Disposal Centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) are open on Sept. 5.
