Springfield Man Charged With Stabbing Death Of Wife Arrested: Police
Jose Hernandez Mejia of Springfield was arrested in South Carolina on Monday on a second-degree murder charge, according to police.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — A Springfield man, who fled the scene of the stabbing death of his wife at their home, was arrested in South Carolina on Monday morning on a second-degree murder charge, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
The fatal stabbing occurred in the 5200 block of Rolling Road in Fairfax County. After the stabbing, the suspect, identified as Jose Hernandez Mejia, 49, contacted family members and explained that he had stabbed his wife and asked them to come over to the house, Fairfax County Police spokesman Lt. Dan Spital said at a news briefing on Sunday.
Officers were dispatched to the home around 12:15 p.m. Sunday, police said.

Before the police arrived, though, Mejia had left the home. When officers entered the home, they found a woman with stab wounds to the upper body, who had died at the scene. A knife with blood on it was found at the scene, Spital said. Four children who were inside the home at the time of the stabbing were found safe
A warrant for second-degree murder was issued for Mejia.

Fairfax County Police had been in touch with Mejia by telephone before his arrest in South Carolina.
