Woodbridge Motorcyclist Dies In Crash At Interchange: Police
A Woodbridge man died Sunday after crashing his motorcycle on Interstate 495 while being pursued by a state trooper, police said.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA ā A Woodbridge man died Sunday night after crashing his motorcycle at the Interstate 495 and Interstate 95 interchange while being pursued by a state trooper.
Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal crash in Fairfax County. The crash occurred Sunday night at about 11:50 p.m. Nibeya Tesfaye, 24, was ejected from his motorcycle and died at the scene.
A Virginia State trooper saw a group of six motorcycles traveling west on I-495 at a high rate of speed. As the trooper pulled in behind the pack of motorcycles, two of the motorcycles accelerated in speed and pulled away from the group, according to the state police.

At this point, the trooper turned on his lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop on the speeding vehicles. The motorcycles accelerated again and took the ramp from westbound I-495 to southbound I-95.
As the motorcycles came through the curve in the ramp at a high rate of speed, the trooper observed one of the motorcycles ā a 2006 Honda CBR600RR ā run off the right side of the road and strike the cement wall, according to the police. Its operator, Tesfaye, died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation at this time. The second motorcyclist did not stop at the scene.
