The 2016 USA BMX 'Stars and Stripes' National Tournament Coming to Prince William & Manassas

Discover Prince William & Manassas, with the help of its sports tourism task force, secured the 2016 USA BMX ‘Stars and Stripes’ National Tournament, a qualifying event for the 2016 Olympic Games. The sports tourism task force was created in 2012 to identify sporting events/tournaments that can take advantage of the diversity of Prince William & Manassas parks, fields and private venues. The group identifies various sporting events and works to help secure and service these events.

This is a great opportunity to showcase Prince William as an ideal destination for sporting events and tournaments.” said Ann Marie Maher, President/CEO of Discover Prince William & Manassas. “The economic impact to the region will include increased hotel room night occupancies and growth in the spending of discretionary funds on lodging, food and beverage and regional attractions.”

The 2016 USA BMX ‘Stars and Stripes’ National Tournament will be held from July 1st – July 3rd, 2016 at Northern Virginia BMX in Woodbridge, VA. With an estimated 2,000 – 6,000 spectators and athletes attending the event, up to 5,000 room nights are expected to be booked in Prince William & Manassas.

This tournament is part of an annual 30 race National Championship Series, which spans across the U.S. and Canada. The 2016 national schedule encompasses 25 weekends, beginning January 8th and concluding Thanksgiving weekend. The events lead up to the 2016 BMX Olympic Trials on the Supercross track at the Olympic Training Center and ultimately ending with the August 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
