'Band of Brothers' Comes to Aid of Retired Firefighter: Media Report

A Sunday fire destroyed the home of Nokesville man and his family.

A retired firefighter in Nokesville lost his home to a fire on Sunday, but fellow firefighters from throughout Northern Virginia are coming to his aid, according to a media report.

On Sunday, a recreational vehicle (RV) owned by Mike Runnels, a retired Fairfax County fire captain, caught fire in his driveway, WJLA-TV Channel 7 reported. The blaze quickly spread to his garage and house, gutting the structures.

The four-bedroom home has been declared a total loss, Channel 7 reported.

A fellow firefighter from Prince William County set up a GoFundMe page on the Web to help out Runnels, his wife Donna and their family. By Wednesday, it had raised more than $19,000.
