Osbourn High School Writers' Conference
Join acclaimed novelists, poets, screenwriters, rappers, entrepreneurs, and journalists at OHS on May 7th!

Osbourn High School’s student-run writing center is hosting its first annual writers’ conference, MUSE16, on Saturday, May 7, 2016 from 8:30 A.M. – 6:30 P.M. in the Fine Arts Commons at Osbourn High School (9005 Tudor Lane). Acclaimed novelists, poets, screenwriters, rappers, entrepreneurs, and journalists will spend the day speaking, teaching, and inspiring students grades 7 – 12 as well as any adults interested in writing. Registration can be completed on the Osbourn High School website. Cost for the conference is $15 and includes an exclusive MUSE16 T-shirt, light breakfast, boxed lunch, all-day coffee bar, two breakout sessions, all presentations, moderated panel discussion, musical and spoken word performances, and post-conference publication in a MUSE16 online e-zine! In addition, participants can submit their own writing to the conference prior to May 7th. Writings will be critiqued by professionals and feedback will be provided on the day of the conference. It is not required to submit writing in order to attend the conference. Novelists Kathryn Johnson, Alan Orloff, Charlotte Strack Peyton, Samuel McLeod will be participating. Kathryn Johnson, of the Writer’s Center in Bethesda, Maryland, will be delivering the keynote address, titled Writing: You Don’t Have to be Anyone but Yourself. Rapper, Howard University professor, and Words Liive founder Gil Perkins will be performing and speaking. Former Senior Editor from USA Today, John Siniff, will also be joining us to share his experiences reporting the news. Mary St. Jean and Chell’sea Huntington of Diagonal Daydream Productions, LLC will be leading workshops on bringing writing to life through film. Lissy Tropea, a food blogger and baker will discuss the important role that writing has in starting your own business. Although walk-up registrations are welcomed, boxed lunch and T-shirts can only be guaranteed for registrations up through May 5, 2016. MUSE16 is not your grandmother’s writing conference!
