Traffic Alert: Ashton Avenue Detour Starts Monday

The Virginia Department of Transportation will be closing Ashton Avenue beginning Monday to replace a damaged culvert. The work will take two weeks.

Ashton Avenue carries about 20,000 vehicles per day. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes to minimize impacts.

Traffic on Ashton Avenue will be detoured via Lomond Drive, Route 234 Business onto Crestwood Drive.

Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists. Drivers will still have access to local residences and businesses.

VDOT signal engineers will monitor traffic and adjust signal timing as needed.

Crews will finish some remaining work after the closure with temporary lane closures or traffic shifts over another two weeks.

Electronic message signs are in place to notify drivers of the scheduled work.
