Two Injured in Townhouse Fire in Manassas Area

Accidental fire was caused by an overheated appliance, according to fire and rescue officials.

MANASSAS, VA — An accidental fire in a mid-row townhouse Monday afternoon was due to an overheated appliance, according to Prince William County Fire and Rescue.

Two residents in the home at the time were treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to Fire and Rescue spokesperson Kim Hylander.

Fire and rescue units responded at 3 p.m. Monday to the two-story mid-row townhouse at 9500 block of Covington Place in Manassas.

They found smoke billowing from the front of the home and discovered the fire in a bedroom on the second floor.

Firefighters evacuated the two people at home at the time, one adult and one child, before putting out the blaze.

Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the family of 6 adults, 2 children and 3 pets. Preliminary damages estimated at approximately $20,000.

The building inspector was called to assess the building and has posted it unsafe.

Remember to:

  • Install smoke detectors on every level within the home including the basement.
  • Test smoke detectors monthly and replace batteries as needed.
  • Change batteries when you change clocks (spring and fall).
  • Replace smoke detectors every 10 years.
