2023 Budget Town Hall Planned By McLean Citizens Association

MCLEAN, VA — McLean residents will have the chance to learn about the Fairfax County budget proposal and ask questions at a virtual town hall on Feb. 28.

The McLean Citizens Association will sponsor the town hall on Feb. 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participating officials are Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust, Dranesville District School Board representative Elaine Tholen, County Executive Bryan Hill, Fairfax County Chief Financial Officer Christina Jackson, and Fairfax County Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Leigh Burden.

During the town hall, there will be a budget presentation and chance to ask questions about the county and school district budgets. Residents can register through Zoom or watch the McLean Citizens Association Facebook Live.

The proposed budget calls for keeping the real estate tax rate the same at $1.14 per $100 of assessed value. Even without a tax rate change, 2022 residential assessments increased by an average 9.57 percent. The average residential assessment increase in the Dranesville District is 9.56 percent. The county executive's budget proposal fully funds the FCPS transfer request and leaves $79.26 million unallocated for the Board of Supervisors to consider.

On March 8, the Board of Supervisors will decide on the maximum real estate tax rate that can be approved. Budget hearings are planned April 12 to 14, followed by budget markup on April 22 and 26 and adoption on May 10. The School Board will adopt a budget on May 26 following the county budget approval.
