627 Additional Coronavirus Cases Reported In Virginia
The 627 new coronavirus cases on Monday represent the lowest daily case count since July 9.
VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 627 new coronavirus cases on Monday, the lowest daily increase since the 613 cases reported on July 9. That equates to a rate of 7.4 cases per 100,000 population, according to state health department calculations. The cumulative case total stands at 141,138, while 3,021 total deaths and 10,613 hospitalizations have been reported.
The new cases include 139 in the southwest region, 137 in the central region, 131 in the northern region, 114 in the northwest region, and 106 in the eastern region. The statewide seven-day average of new cases is 938.
After increases in hospitalizations during much of July, the average of current COVID-19 patients has been stable or declining ever since. As of Monday, there are 995 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized. That includes 286 in the eastern region, 258 in the central region, 211 in the northern region, 150 in the southwest region and 90 in the northwest region. There have been 16,903 total COVID-19 patients discharged from Virginia hospitals to date, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association.

The association reports 106 total COVID-19 patients on ventilators and 217 in the intensive care units statewide, a notable change from the 126 on ventilators and 263 in the ICU reported on Sunday. Ventilator use among all hospital patients is at 20 percent, and intensive care unit occupancy is at 76 percent. No hospitals are reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.
The positive rate of tests continues to average below 6 percent statewide. The latest seven-day average is 5.7 percent as of Sept. 17. A month ago on Aug. 17, the average was 6.6 percent. Positive averages by region are 6.7 percent in the southwest region, 6 percent in the northern region, 5.7 percent in the central region, 5.6 percent in the eastern region and 5.5 percent in the northwest region. Statewide, there have been 1,898,637 PCR test completed in Virginia, an increase of 16,609 from Sunday.

Last week, the reported death of a teenager became the youngest coronavirus death in Virginia. There is now one death in the 10 to 19 age group, none in the 0 to 9 age group and six in the 20 to 29 age group.

- Ages 0-9: 5,127 cases, 91 hospitalizations, 0 deaths
- Ages 10-19: 13,606 cases, 117 hospitalizations, 1 death
- Ages 20-29: 29,336 cases, 449 hospitalizations, six deaths
- Ages 30-39: 24,325 cases, 932 hospitalizations, 28 deaths
- Ages 40-49: 21,904 cases, 1,370 hospitalizations, 84 deaths
- Ages 50-59: 19,763 cases, 1,947 hospitalizations, 209 deaths
- Ages 60-69: 12,906 cases, 2,132 hospitalizations, 470 deaths
- Ages 70-79: 6,851 cases, 1,842 hospitalizations, 769 deaths
- Ages 80 and up: 6,111 cases, 1,714 hospitalizations, 1,451 deaths
- Not reported: 1,209 cases, 19 hospitalizations, three deaths
