Amico Preparing for First Year as Principal at Langley

After seven years as an administrator, Fred Amico was promoted to Principal at the end of last school year.

Fred Amico’s first school year as the Principal at Langley High School is now one month away, but his term as Principal actually began more than a month ago.

Amico, a former administrator at Langley for the last seven years, was selected as the school’s new principal near the end of last school year. He will replace former Principal Matt Ragone, who left Langley last December to take over as the Principal at South County High School in Lorton.

“I love the school, I love the kids, I love the community, so I thought it was a logical next step,” Amico told the Saxon Scope, Langley’s student newspaper, back in May.

Bruce Butler served as Langley’s principal through the conclusion of the past school year, and relinquished the title on June 30.

Amico will now guide the school as it undergoes renovations that began last school year. It remains one of the premier high schools in Fairfax County and the Commonwealth of Virginia, and ranked No. 4 in the state in Niche.com’s recent Virginia high school rankings.

“I’ve been in education for a long time, so it’s just a natural next step,” Amico told the Saxon Scope.

Langley’s first day of school is Sept. 8.
