BASIS Independent McLean Celebrates Annual Chinese Lunar New Year

Mandarin Students Kick Off the Year of the Rat at McLean School

Mandarin students at BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) in McLean, Va. performed at its 4th annual Chinese Lunar New Year festivities, complete with the Dragon Dance, Umbrella Dance, shadow shows, skits and food to bring in the Year of the Rat. As part of the BIM curriculum, 2 year olds to 4th graders are taught Mandarin, while 7th graders to 12th graders can choose Mandarin as a foreign language option. Each year, BIM Mandarin classes perform various dances, skits, and songs that share their Mandarin knowledge or Chinese culture. The BIM Kung Fu and WuShu clubs also performed.
