BASIS Independent McLean Welcomes New Directors of Student Affair

BASIS Independent McLean (BIM) welcomed Sara Conyers and Chris Ferguson as the new directors of student affairs. Conyers leads grades 8 to 12, and Ferguson directs grades 4 to 7. Both are veteran teachers. As directors of student affairs, Conyers and Ferguson will support our culture of academic excellence by leading teachers and guiding students academically and social-emotionally to ensure success in and out of the classroom. “Sara and Chris are extraordinary additions to our BASIS Independent McLean leadership team,” said Tiffany Conroy, interim head of school of BASIS Independent McLean of McLean, Va. “Not only do they have veteran teaching experience, but they have a depth of administration and curriculum knowledge that will serve our students wells,” said Conroy.

Last school year, Conyers served as the dean of students for grades 8-12. She also has experience teaching bilingual elementary math, high school advanced-placement government and advanced-placement U.S. history, as well as middle school U.S. history. Prior to joining BASIS Independent McLean, she was an administrator for a middle school gifted and talented program, and, most recently, a lead teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia.

Ferguson, a New York native, joins BIM from BASIS Prescott in Arizona where he served as the director of academic programs and a middle school math teacher. With more than 15 years of experience, Ferguson served as a team leader and department chair for Prescott Unified School District in Arizona. He also enjoys coaching basketball and football.
