Eight FCPS Class of '15 Students Win Merit Scholarships

The county's winners hail from Fairfax, Chantilly and McLean High Schools as well as Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology

Eight Fairfax County Public Schools graduates from the class of 2015 have won college-sponsored scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, FCPS announced this week.

Among the eight scholarship recipients, five attended Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST), while McLean, Chantilly and Fairfax High Schools each claimed one scholarship recipient.

This year’s National Merit college-sponsored scholarship winners are as follows (listed with their high school, probable degree field and the institution they’ll attend this fall):

  • Jack Skopowski — Chantilly High School — international relations — National Merit George Washington University Scholarship
  • Kyung Lee — Fairfax High School — marketing — National Merit Emory University Scholarship
  • Yongshik Yoon — McLean High School — human rights — National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship
  • Billie Males — TJHSST — geology — National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship
  • Ramya Radhakrishnan — TJHSST — medicine — National Merit University of Miami Scholarship
  • Emily Rogers — TJHSST — computer programming — National Merit Wheaton College Scholarship
  • Zane Rossi — TJHSST — academia — National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship
  • Bobbie Sheng — TJHSST — law, intellectual property — National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship

College-sponsored Merit Scholarships range in value from $500 and $2,000 each year for up to four years of undergraduate study at the college or university financing the scholarship.

The eight FCPS scholarship winners are among 7,400 students to win a Merit Scholarship from the class of 2015.
