Great Falls Boy Greets Prime Minister of Japan

Glenn Koji vanValkenburgh, a local Great Falls resident, was given the honor of being one of the two children to greet Prime Minister and Mrs. Abe of Japan as they arrived at Andrews Air Force Base Monday for their US visit.

Glenn shook the Prime Minister’s hand and greeted him with “Hello, welcome to the US,” in Japanese, as he handed the Prime Minister a bouquet of flowers.

Glenn is currently a second grade student at Great Falls Elementary School and is enrolled in its Japanese Immersion Program, part of the Fairfax County World Languages Program, where Math, Science and Health are taught in Japanese.

Great Falls Elementary School had the honor of hosting the First Lady and Mrs. Abe for a visit Tuesday, and Glenn and his classmates were part of the singing performance of “It’s a Small World” and several other songs in Japanese.
