Kathleen Murphy Out-Raises Opponent in Delegate Race

Republican candidate Craig Parisot raises $229,000 to Democrat Murphy's $470,000. Election is Tuesday, Jan. 6.

Kathleen Murphy out-raised her Republican opponent by a 2:1 margin in the special election for Virginia’s 34th House District, pulling in almost half a million dollars through the short weeks of this campaign, according to a news release from the candidate.

The special election is next Tuesday, Jan. 6; the seat opened after Barbara Comstock won the 10th congressional District seat.

Murphy, a Democrat, raised $470,000 from 1,127 donors, many through small contributions, the campaign noted.

The Republican candidate, Craig Parisot, raised $229,000 from 320 donors, according to The Washington Post, including $32,000 from the candidate.

“I’m proud that our campaign has raised almost half a million dollars, but the real success here is that our funding has come from over 1,100 donors, many of them giving just small contributions,” said Michelle Gajewski, Murphy for Delegate campaign manager, in the news release.
