The Langley School Opens State-of-the-Art New Facility

Crossroads Building Will Enhance Teaching and Learning and Build Community

The Langley School celebrated the start of the 2022-2023 school year and its 80th anniversary by officially opening the doors of the school’s new Crossroads Building during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 6. A key component of Langley’s campus master plan, the 40,000-square-foot facility was thoughtfully designed to support student learning, promote an inviting campus community, and position the school as a national leader in preschool through eighth grade education.

Key features of the Crossroads Building include:

  • Classrooms for Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten: Designed to support the developmental needs of Langley’s youngest Primary School learners, spacious light-filled classrooms promote purposeful play, hands-on discovery and creativity, and collaboration.
  • Classrooms for Fifth Grade: With flexible collaborative areas that allow fifth-grade students to bond with their peers and teachers, the intentionally designed spaces help fully prepare fifth-graders socially, emotionally, and intellectually for the transition to Langley’s Middle School division the following year.
  • Library: The new library serves as a hub for the entire campus, providing students with opportunities to build their literacy and research skills and offering a flexible space for community gatherings.
  • Technology and Innovation Lab: Featuring furniture, tools, and materials to reflect a modern workplace, this lab provides a place for students to explore technology and innovation concepts while building creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Multipurpose Room: A large multipurpose room provides an age-appropriate stage where Langley’s youngest students can perform, as well as a place for community gatherings.
  • STEAM Space: The addition of the Crossroads Building also allowed Langley to repurpose its former Primary School space into a dedicated home for its innovative STEAM program, with reimagined art classrooms and a fabrication lab.

This building project was made possible through The Next Generation Campaign which was launched in 2019 and is Langley’s most ambitious and successful campaign in its 80-year history, with more than $14.4 million raised to date. In addition to funding construction of the Crossroads Building, the campaign also allowed the school to double its endowment from $5 million to $10 million, ensuring Langley’s long-term stability and affordability.
