The League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area Reminds You to Register to Vote Today (National Voter Registration Day)

The League of Women Voters of the Fairfax Area (LWVFA) encourages all eligible voters, who are not already registered, to register to vote today, which is the sixth annual National Voter Registration Day (NVRD). The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established this nonpartisan effort on September 25, 2012. The goal was to register hundreds of thousands of voters throughout the country on a single day. Last year, over 750,000 citizens all across the country used NVRD to register to vote (nationalvoterregistrationday.org/about). It has been held on the fourth Tuesday of September since it was established.

Every year, thousands of Virginians cannot vote despite their desire to do so, because they did not register to vote in time or did not update their registration information after they changed their names or addresses. Many citizens show up at their polling places and are then disappointed when they are told by election officials that they are not registered to vote. To avoid such disappointment, please register to vote, if you have not already done so, and also encourage the members of your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. To register to vote online, go to: https://www.lwv-fairfax.org/voter-information/.
