ABOUT THE PANEL

Spirited discussion is not only possible, but critical in our divided nation. Join us for a conversation about civil discourse in the 21st century, especially for Generation Z. We must cultivate civil discourse in high school and college so that students are equipped to disagree agreeably, to better fulfill their roles as active citizens in a democracy. Hear opening remarks by Pano Kanelos, President of St. John’s College in Annapolis, followed by a moderated panel discussion among thought leaders from institutions that are leading the way on this important conversation. Audience Q&A to follow. Register online here. This event is free and open to the public.

ABOUT ST. JOHN’S COLLEGE

St. John’s College holds a distinctive position among American colleges and universities. The college’s commitment to the direct examination of original texts through shared, Socratic inquiry makes it a particularly vibrant and diverse community of learning. Close engagement with many of the West’s greatest thinkers — from Homer, Plato, and Euclid to Nietzsche, Einstein, Du Bois, and Woolf — inspire students to grapple with the most fundamental, and essential, of human questions. Located on two campuses in Annapolis, MD and Santa Fe, NM, St. John’s was recently called “the most contrarian college in America” by Frank Bruni of The New York Times. It has the second highest rated faculty in the nation (Princeton Review, 2016) and was called “the most future-proof college in America” by Quartz. St. John’s College offers BA and MA degrees in the liberal arts on both campuses; the Santa Fe campus also offers an MA in the Eastern Classics. More info at sjc.edu.
