McLean Boy in Critical Condition After Sledding into Passing Car
Police: Six-year-old boy was sliding down a steep driveway Wednesday; driver immediately got out and rendered aid to child.
A 6-year-old boy was struck and seriously injured while sledding on a steep driveway in the 7000 block of Matthew Mills Road in McLean, according to a news release from Fairfax County Police.
The boy was under adult supervision as his flat bottom sled ran into a passing 2015 Lexus at around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The driver, a 65-year-old McLean resident, heard a loud noise, recognized what had happened, immediately got out and rendered aid to the child, Fairfax County Police noted. The child was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital in life-threatening condition, police said.

Police say the boy remains in critical condition.
No charges have been placed, according to police. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash, FCPD said. Crash Reconstruction Units are continuing to investigate.

Clarification: Fairfax County Police first claimed the boy was on a “snowboard.” They now note he was riding a “flat bottom sled.”
