McLean High Schools Ranked High In Virginia (ICYMI)

McLean High and Langley High are the second and third best high schools in Virginia, according to U.S. News and World Report rankings.

MCLEAN, VA -- McLean High School is again ranked the second best high school in Virginia, and Langley High is third, according to U.S. News and World Report. The annual list of best high schools in the country ranks the schools on national and state levels.

Langley High moved up to third from sixth in 2016 . McLean High's ranking remained the same. Overall, McLean High ranked 153rd best high school in the country, down from 108 last year. Langley High moved from 190 nationally to 180 this year.

In a profile of McLean High U.S. News says, "The AP participation rate at McLean High School is 81 percent. The student body makeup is 50 percent male and 50 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 40 percent."

Of Langley High, it notes, "The AP participation rate at Langley High School is 80 percent. The student body makeup is 52 percent male and 48 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 32 percent."

  8. Carnegie Vanguard High School, Houston, Texas
  9. School of Science and Engineering, Dallas, Texas

U.S. News assigned schools medals for their college readiness, based on graduation rates and state test scores. McLean High and Langley High earned gold medals and both had 98 percent graduation rates. Fifteen Virginia high schools were given gold medals by U.S. News, 39 received silver medals and the remaining 27 schools received bronze medals.

Compared with other states, Virginia came in 11th, with 16.9 percent of the state’s schools receiving silver or gold medals.
