Michael Spurs Road Closures Around Fairfax County

Michael's strong winds brought down trees and power lines on numerous roads in Fairfax County.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA—Michael, now a post-tropical cyclone that passed over Virginia Thursday into early Friday, spurred a number of road closures in Fairfax County.

Forecasters warned that strong winds could bring down trees and power lines. Fairfax County and other parts of the region are under a wind advisory through 11 a.m. Friday with gusts up to 50 mph.

Over 541,000 Virginians lost power as of 9 a.m. Friday, according to PowerOutage.US. Less than 1,000 remained without power as of 9 a.m. If you're a Dominion customer, report outages online or by calling 866-366-4357.

Here are the current road closures as reported by Fairfax County Police at noon Friday.

  • 5800 block of Fitzhugh Street, Burke: tree and downed power lines in roadway
  • Old Keene Mill Road and Burke Woods Drive, Burke: tree in roadway (reopened)
  • Towlston Road and Vernon Drive, Dranesville: tree in roadway (reopened)
  • 1900 block of Foxhall Road, McLean: tree in roadway
  • Old Dominion Drive and Birch Road, McLean: wires blocking the roadway
  • Steeplechase Drive and Lawyers Road, Reston: tree in roadway
  • 7800 block of Carrleigh Pkwy, West Springfield: tree and cable line in roadway
  • Meadowlark Road and Brookside Lane, Wolf Trap: tree in roadway
