New Apartments May Be Coming to Former Kip Killmon Ford Location
The lot, vacant since Oct., will temporarily house an "unnamed" furniture company while the proposal for the apartment building is reviewed.

Tysons Corner’s transformation since the arrival of the Metrorail Silver Line’s arrival will continue at one of the city’s longest-standing lots.
It’s been nearly a year since the old Kip Killmon Ford dealership on Route 7 was vacated, one of a few former car dealerships to change locations since the city’s revitalization.
It’s temporarily housed an “unnamed furniture store,” read a Fairfax County news release, but is on its way to becoming a new 500-unit, 80,000-square foot apartment building that’s anchored by a new grocery store, restaurants and shops.

Garrett Companies, the developer of the new apartment building, submitted its proposal for the 5.4-acre lot to the county in April. The county approved the use of the space for the furniture store this week, and said it will “likely” review the redevelopment proposal “later this year or next.”
The building will stand six stories tall and is located less than a half mile from both the Tysons and Greensboro Mtero Stations. Garrett told the county it hopes the housing will appeal to both young professionals and empty-nesters seeking an urban lifestyle.

While inhabited by the furniture store, it is expected the structure will be used as is before redevelopment for the apartment building is approved.
The apartment building would include many amenities, like a business center, a fitness center, a juice bar, a clubroom, a swimming pool, a dog park and a pet spa, among others. The building will also incorporate two large courtyards
While discussing the Silver Line’s first anniversary last week and the impact it has had on the area, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority told Patch it hopes to have 100,000 residents and 200,000 workers in Tysons Corner by the year 2050. The county expressed in its most recent news release that it hopes to become Fairfax’s “downtown” when the redevelopment — including Phase 2 of the Silver Line installation — are complete.
