Northern Virginia Economic Development Alliance Formed

The Amazon headquarters announcement was a major factor in the creation of the alliance.

VIRGINIA — Ten Northern Virginia jurisdictions have joined together to form the Northern Virginia Economic Development Alliance. The alliance allows jurisdictions to collaborate on recruiting new business opportunities.

The alliance will be creating brand and story demonstrating the appeal of doing business in Northern Virginia while working with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership. Membership includes the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Arlington County, City of Fairfax, Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, City of Falls Church, Fauquier County, Loudoun County, City of Manassas, City of Manassas Park and Prince William County Department of Economic Development.

Amazon's decision to locate its second headquarters in Arlington increased the appeal of regional collaboration on economic development. Four jurisdictions had worked together with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to create a regional pitch, as Amazon's request for proposals had encouraged regional responses. This resulted in Northern Virginia's first regional brand—innovation lives here. A website and other information highlighted the strengths of the region for business.
