Sparklers Thrown In Trash Start McLean House Fire
The fire department urges residents to throw out fireworks properly after the fire in McLean.

MCLEAN, VA—A fire caused by sparklers in the trash broke out at a McLean house Wednesday, July 3, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
Firefighters responded to the 7400 block of Georgetown Court around 9:50 p.m. to find smoke showing from the garage. The fire was quickly put out, and no residents were injured. One firefighter had a minor injury and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Two adults and five children were home and evacuated when a security alarm sounded. Fire investigators determined the fire's cause was the disposal of recently used sparklers in the garage.

The fire did not displace any residents. Damages are estimated to be $11,000.
In Fairfax County, only certain types of fireworks like sparklers are allowed for use on private property. Fire officials remind residents to safely dispose of fireworks by placing them into metal containers, dousing them with water, putting a metal lid on and placing the container away from the house.
