Tree Falls, Closes Georgetown Pike In McLean

BREAKING: Georgetown Pike is temporarily closed for a downed tree.

UPDATE: The road has reopened.

A weekend of rain and thunderstorms resulted in flooding and downed trees around Fairfax County. The report is a downed tree closing Georgetown Pike in McLean Monday.

Georgetown Pike is closed in both directions between Linganore Drive and Swinks Mill Road, according to Fairfax County Police. Crews are working to remove a tree from a power line. The closure is in effect just west of Capital Beltway and next to Scott's Run.

Fairfax County Police also reported Old Courthouse Road at Besley Road in Tysons will remain closed for an extended amount of time due to high water and road damage.

Don't expect this to be the end of weather-related problems. The NWS forecast calls for showers and possible thunderstorms every day for the remainder of the week. McLean and other parts of the DC region are under a flash flood watch from noon to late Monday night.

Residents should report downed trees to the following authorities:

  • Adjacent to public roads: Contact Virginia Department of Transportation at 1-800-FOR-ROAD, TTY 711.
  • On county parkland: Contact Fairfax County Park Authority at 703-324-8594, TTY 703-324-3988.
  • Posing hazard to public areas: Contact Fairfax County Urban Forestry at 703-324-1770, TTY 703-324-1877.
  • On private property: Removal is the property owner’s responsibility.
