On Wednesday, August 17th Congresswoman Comstock’s office held the 8th panel of the 2016 10th Congressional District Young Women Leadership Program with around 150 participants and parents in attendance. This panel focused on female first responders and included representatives from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (Katie Buist, EMT and Lieutenant Kristi Bartlett), Sheriff Stacey Kincaid of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Department, Chief Cynthia McAlister of the Purcellville Police Department, and Public Information Officer Aleksandra Kowalski of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department.
Participants of the program learned of the importance of finding strong women mentors in their desired fields and how valuable local internships can be in finding a field they can work in and be successful in as they build their careers, especially in male dominated fields such as firefighting and law enforcement.
