Vision For Downtown McLean To Be Studied

Residents can provide updated suggestions for downtown McLean at three meetings.

MCLEAN, VA—Fairfax County has launched a planning study to collect updated recommendations for downtown McLean. The first step in the planning process will be three community workshops to allow residents to update the vision for downtown.

The focus of the study is on a 230-acre area called the McLean Community Business Center. Considerations will include future land uses, development intensities, transportation, public facilities and urban design.

Last summer, a developer backed out of a mixed-use development project proposed for downtown McLean, Inside Nova reported. The development could have included residential, commercial and office space, according to the plans presented to residents in February 2017.

Before the county updates development plans, residents will partake in the three community workshops. Each will have a different focus: the first two meetings will focus on real estate economics and neighborhood planning and how these relate to community goals in the McLean Community Business Center. The third meeting will utilize information from the first two workshops to look at design and development options. The meetings will be led by a consultant team and will result in a final vision report that a task force and the county will then use to develop plan recommendations.

The last time recommendations for the McLean Community Business Center had been fully reviewed was in 1998. The community business district is centered on the intersection of Old Dominion Drive and Chain Bridge Road and is located south of Dolley Madison Boulevard.
