William and Mary Choirs Concert

The Choir of the College of William and Mary and William and Mary Botetourt Chamber Singers perform an afternoon choir concert on April 2nd.

On April 2nd at 5:00 pm, the Music in McLean Concert Series welcomes The Choir of the College of William and Mary, under the direction of James Armstrong, and the William and Mary Botetourt Chamber Singers, under the direction of Jamie Bartlett, for a Sunday evening choral concert. This program will feature works by J.S. Bach, South African composers Mokale Koapeng, J.P. Mohapeloa, and M.M. Moerane, the Lebanese composer Ilyas Iliya, the Estonian composer Pärt Uusberg and Ola Gjeilo from Norway. One of the featured works on the concert is Wings of Peace and Love by Prof. Mokale Koapeng (University of Witwatersrand, South Africa) which was commissioned by the Daniel Eric Helms New Music Program for the William and Mary Choir for their tour with the Botetourts to South Africa this upcoming May.

This year the Choir of the College of William and Mary is celebrating 94 years since its founding. The Choir performs internationally on a regular basis. It’s singers have had sung in concert with the United States Marine Band and have performed twice for the Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Botetourt Chamber Singers was formed in 1974, originally as a auditioned subset of the Choir. The “Bots” first international tour was in 2005 and they have since performed across Europe on multiple occasions. They have released 2 CDs including “Sing We Joyous, All Together” and “All My Heart This Night Rejoices”
