Family Of Six Loses Home On Thanksgiving
The fire forced a family out of their Mount Vernon home before they could have a Thanksgiving meal.

MOUNT VERNON, VA—A Mount Vernon family of six lost their home after it went up in flames Thanksgiving morning.
The fire department received word of the blaze around 7:19 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23. Firefighters arrived on scene after the two adults and four children had safely evacuated the home in the 8400 block of Osman Drive.
Firefighters located and contained the fire to the kitchen. No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

Fire investigators say the fire started behind the oven range in the kitchen due to an electrical event in the outlet connected to the oven. The smoke alarms appeared to be working properly and went off after the residents had evacuated.
The fire resulted in extensive smoke damage. Total damages are estimated at $93,750. Red Cross assistance has been requested.
