Five Cats, Four Birds, One Rabbit Taken from Home: Police

Police were checking on the resident and found animals that were not being taken care of properly, they said.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Fairfax County Police officers, initially responding to check on the welfare of a local resident Monday, also found a menagerie of animals not being properly taken care of, police said.

Five cats, four birds and a rabbit were removed from the home Monday just before 5 p.m. in the 8100 block of Kidd Street and taken to the animal shelter for evaluation and care, police said.

The resident was transported to a local hospital for psychological evaluation and was eventually released and charged with being an unfit owner, according to police.

No word yet on whether the animals will be returned or made available for adoption.
