Roads Remain Closed After Flash Floods Strike Loudoun

Heavy rains produced dangerous flash flooding in Loudoun County Thursday night. Several roads were closed by flooding or downed trees, including Route 7 in Leesburg by the W. Market Street overpass and Route 7 at Clarke's Gap where it intersects with Route 9.

New Eviction Moratorium To Begin Next Week In Virginia

On Friday, the Virginia Supreme Court announced it approved Gov. Ralph Northam's request for another temporary eviction moratorium as some tenants struggle to pay rent during the pandemic. The moratorium between Monday, Aug. 10 and Monday, Sept. 7, pauses eviction proceedings related to failure to pay rent.

Jerry Falwell Jr., the president of conservative Liberty University, has agreed to take "an indefinite leave of absence" after he shared a photo of himself with his pants unzipped.

Backlog Accounts For 2,015 New Coronavirus Cases In Virginia

An additional 2,015 coronavirus cases were reported statewide Friday, which the Virginia Department of Health attributed to a backlog of cases. The number reflects cases that should have been reported on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as Friday's cases. There had been 798 cases reported on Wednesday and 818 on Thursday.

Man In ICE Custody Dies After Detention At VA's Prison Hot Spot

A Canadian man held in a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Farmville with a major COVID-19 outbreak died Wednesday, less than a month after he tested positive for coronavirus. James Thomas Hill, 72, had been in ICE custody since his April release from Rivers Federal Correctional Institute in Winton, North Carolina.

Man Accused Of West End Murder Had Been Released From Jail

Alexandria Police took a suspect in custody Wednesday for the July 29 homicide in the West End. Media reports and court records indicate he was accused of sexual assault by the victim last year.
