House Fire Wednesday Night in Mount Vernon Area

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire Wednesday, Feb. 18, at approximately 8:30 p.m., in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. The single-family home is located in the 9000 block of Chickawane Court.

Firefighters encountered smoke and fire coming from the front porch of the two-story home upon arrival. Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire. The damage was contained to the outside of the home. The occupants were not displaced. There were no injuries.

Damage is estimated at $5,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire was improper disposal of smoking materials on the porch.
