Mount Vernon may not be known for its fierce fashion, but when it comes to finding a one-of-a-kind prom dress, checking out the local boutiques is a sure bet.
Bridals by Natalie on Cooper Square has locations in Virginia and Florida and offers a wide variety of designer dresses, from traditional gowns to more trendy styles. They also offer tuxedoes, shoes and accessories. Specific styles can be viewed on their website.
And as any fashion-savvy teen knows, accessorizing is just as important as finding the perfect dress or tux. A smart way to complement an expensive trip to the mall is to start thrifting.

“The dress might come from the mall [but] accessories, shoes, jewelry, maybe a little evening purse, might come from here,” said Claudia Reinsel, manager at Select Seconds, a thrift shop on Sacramento Center.
With many donations to thrift stores coming in around springtime due to spring-cleaning, now is the perfect time to find a great selection of accessories and evening wear.

Expect to pay no more than $20 for gowns, men’s jackets and shoes. Belts start at $1; necklaces and earrings can be found from $4; and evening handbags are less than $10.
“We have some young adult regulars,” said Reinsel, who says that with a little vision, a lot could be done with the styles offered by Select Seconds.
Comfort Boadu, owner of Comfort Elegantz Fashions in Sacramento Center, is all about vision. She sees those in need and is passionate about stepping in to help. For the past couple of years, Boadu has made it possible for two local teen girls to attend prom by providing them with prom attire.
This year, Boadu is again offering to dress one person, from head to toe, at no cost. She requires parental consent as well as an honest need. Contact Boadu directly for further details.
And for the little touches that matter, don’t forget the ultimate accessory: stylish nails.
According to Alice Tran, co-owner of CT Nails on Cooper Square, exotic and classic nail styles are in demand. Try 3D acrylic nail art or opt for a traditional French manicure, but either way, you'll be sure to put your best foot (and hand) forward.
