K9 Suddenly Dies During Call In Hybla Valley

Police say K9 Doby collapsed during a response to a robbery.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA—Fairfax County Police are mourning the loss of a K9 that died suddenly Friday in Hybla Valley.

K9 Doby was part of a patrol canine team responding to an armed robbery in the Arlington Drive area. During the incident, Doby collapsed and stopped breathing.

After his handler performed CPR, Doby was taken to Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield. Attempts to revive him were not successful.

A necropsy was performed to determine cause of death. Police said in an email to Patch the necropsy found it was a medical issue. No further details were released.

Doby just turned two years old, according to police. Born in Hungary, he joined the police department in March 2018 and was actively working since August 2018.

Police shared news of K9 Doby joining the department last September. Doby and his handler completed 21 weeks of training relating to patrol and detection work.
