Winter Weight Gain? Not this Holiday Season!

Tips to sidestep the notorious winter weight gain, while still enjoying the season!

What's the holidays without fabulous food? Some of us overindulge during get togethers, while others may use food to cope with stress. It all adds up to winter weight gain. And it happens around the globe. So what can you do to stay strong and slim this season?

Stop the calories before they hit your system. It sounds easier than it is, of course, but try to follow these tips to make them part of your holiday prep.

  • Don't deprive. Your first instinct may be to nix all the bad for you calorie bombs, but that's just going to make you want them more. Practice moderation and portion control instead.
  • Make healthier choices. Switch out green bean casserole for sauteed green beans, or pick up a pumpkin pie instead of pecan. Little swaps can make a big difference while still supplying the tastes of the season.
  • Eat mindfully. Try not to eat in front of the TV while chatting with friends or co-workers - you're more likley to eat more than you need or want. Pay attention to what you are eating and how much. You'll enjoy that much more!
  • Avoid distractions. If you have a party coming up, eat healthy in preparation . You'll feel nourished and will be less likley to overeat. Don't forget to stay hydrated, too!
