Shenandoah Valley residents can nominate conservation-minded neighbors by July 24, with winners recognized this fall and receiving a $500 stipend.

History and beauty: A trip to Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley (postbulletin.com) — A visiting couple spent a week exploring Shenandoah National Park and nearby historic sites, including a stop at the New Market Battlefield that highlights the town’s Civil War role. 4. Debbie Martin Beal (1955 – 2026) (royalexaminer.com) — New Market is mourning the passing of resident Debbie Martin Beal, 70, who died peacefully at her home on June 18. Born in Front Royal, she loved the outdoors, especially caring for her horses, sheep, and other animals, and is remembered by her partner Jim Crump, extended family, and her beloved dog, Bear. Private services and burial will be in Front Royal.
