3. Newport News man convicted of firearm and drug crimes (wavy.com) — A Newport News man faces up to 15 years in prison after federal investigators found cocaine, fentanyl, and a loaded handgun on him while serving outstanding warrants. Court documents say officers recovered additional ammunition from his vehicle, and as a previously convicted felon, he was barred from possessing firearms or ammo; sentencing is scheduled for January 2027.
   

4. Power outages continue Monday as Dominion Energy blames salt spray from nor'easter (wavy.com) — Power problems from a recent nor'easter were serious enough that Newport News Shipbuilding's first and second shifts were told to stay home Monday, while thousands across Hampton Roads lost electricity and traffic lights. Dominion Energy blames salt spray buildup on equipment and says crews are installing more salt-resistant hardware, urging residents to report outages and avoid downed lines.
   

5. Kriewaldt retires after 27 distinguished years building, delivering the Navy's fleet (newspressnow.com) — A long-serving Navy officer has wrapped up a 27-year career overseeing construction and modernization of nuclear-powered warships from the James River waterfront in Newport News. In a recent ceremony, Capt. Hannah A. Kriewaldt formally relinquished command of SUPSHIP Newport News and retired, marking a notable leadership change at one of the city's key military-industrial commands.
