Flint Hill School announces two nights—May 2 and 3—of the spring Upper School play, “Sarah, Plain and Tall.” Directed by Upper School drama teacher Carlo Grossman, the cast of 13 students tells the story of a widower, Jacob, looking for a wife and mother for his two young children. The play is set on a Kansas farm in the early 1900s.
After Jacob places an ad, Sarah, from Maine, responds. She intends to visit the family for a trial period of a month. Arriving by train, she gives a description of herself: “I will wear a yellow bonnet. I am plain and tall.” Staged as a flashback, the story is narrated by Ana, one of the children, who—on the eve of her wedding—reflects back on how Sarah’s visit changed all of their lives. “This play is appealing to all age groups,” says Grossman, “we encourage everyone to come see it.”
Show information: May 2 and 3, 7:30 p.m. on both evenings. The location is Flint Hill’s Olson Theater, on the Lower and Middle School campus, 10410 Academic Drive, Oakton, Virginia. For information about this and other fine arts productions, e-mail Tim Mitchell, tmitchell@flinthill.org.
