November 03, 2020

In recognition of Cybersecurity Month and National Cybersecurity Awareness Week, Marshall Academy—a Governor’s STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) Academy—is hosting a cybersecurity career speaker series for Cyber: IT students. The virtual series features professionals and cyber entrepreneurs from a host of companies including Amazon Web Services; Capital One; Cyber Defense Academy; Cyber Human Capital, LLC; Paraben; and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Speakers will include a cyber compliance officer, cybersecurity super recruiter, founder and chief executive officer, director of global security and infrastructure practice, principal cyber risk associate, and vulnerability manager. Featured speakers will be Charles Britt, a cyber compliance officer with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Amber Schroader, founder and CEO of Paraben, a company specializing in digital forensics, risk assessment, and security. The speaker series focuses on the cyber professionals’ career journey and their diverse backgrounds. Some began exploring the field as early as middle school and others began after completing graduate school and changing career paths. The speakers will cover how cyber teams protect their organizations, address industry needs, outline cybersecurity credentials in demand, cover soft skills and training needed as well as available opportunities for high school and college students. Cybersecurity is one of the fastest growing, high-wage career fields. The Washington, D.C., metropolitan area is considered the cyber capital of the country; this area has three times the number of cyber related positions versus the rest of the country.
