Memorial Day 2019 In VA, DC: Parades, Tributes, Concerts, Food

From parades, fireworks and observances honoring troops to food fests and concerts, here's a list of NoVA and DC Memorial Day 2019 events.

WASHINGTON, DC — The weather should be perfect for Memorial Day services in Washington, D.C., and communities across northern Virginia have plenty of parades, ceremonies and more planned to mark the holiday. There will be a bounty of celebrations — from the National Memorial Day Parade, which is open to all who are willing to brave the crowds and head to the National Mall in DC to Vietnam War veteran and Purple Heart recipient John Kimball speaking at Leesburg's Memorial Day ceremony.

Also set are the annual summer Blast Off, complete with fireworks and a concert on Sunday, May 26, at Wolf Trap by "The President's Own" United States Marine Band; the ViVa! Vienna! festival of rides, entertainment, food and craft vendors; Alexandria's annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival and Memorial Day Ceremony to honor the 68 Alexandria residents who died serving in the Vietnam War; and the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra's annual Memorial Day concert in Fredericksburg.

And don't forget the PBS National Memorial Day Concert, set for Sunday, May 26, which honors the nation's men and women in uniform, as well as their families. The free concert commemorates the 151st anniversary of Memorial Day and will be held on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol from 8 to 9:30 p.m. ET; you can also watch it via livestream.
