• Bristol District Weekly Traffic Alert: May 4 - 10, 2026 (virginia.gov) — Drivers in Richlands should know the Front Street bridge over the Clinch River is still under construction, even though the detour was removed April 13. Expect ongoing work near Fairfax Avenue and Allegheny Street as VDOT finishes the project, along with other lane closures and improvements on major routes across Tazewell County and southwest Virginia next week.
   

• Shining a Light (wlu.edu) — A Richlands-born college student is using his own experience with rural education programs to study how federal funding decisions affect Southwest Virginia students like those back home. Working with a professor, he’s researched TRIO programs, visited Washington, D.C., and is turning his findings into an op-ed aimed at protecting college access for low-income Appalachian youth.
