Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross returns to Roanoke (wsls.com) — Roanoke residents can expect thousands of visitors at Fallon Park this weekend as the Virginia's Blue Ridge Go Cross cyclocross race returns with elite riders from across the country and abroad. Events start early Saturday, Sept. 26, and continue through Sunday afternoon, offering free, world-class racing action right in town.

Timeline questions emerge in Wood Haven purchase agreement (wdbj7.com) — Roanoke residents are learning that the company buying land for a proposed Wood Haven technology park data center, Clearview Dynamics, was formed nearly two years after an initial nondisclosure agreement was signed. Regional industrial authority leaders now say an affiliated corporate entity first signed the NDA, but have not yet identified that company or clarified its role at the Roanoke-area site.
   

3. Feeding Southwest Virginia hosts elected officials during Hunger Action Month (salemtimes-register.com) — Local leaders from Roanoke joined officials across the region at Feeding Southwest Virginia's Salem distribution center to spotlight hunger during Hunger Action Month. They helped sort and bag potatoes while learning how federal programs and the food bank's 275 partner agencies support about 129,000 Southwest Virginians, including many Roanoke neighbors, every month.
   

4. Roanoke College rolls out major regional scholarship for Southwest Virginians (theroanoketribune.org) — Families around Roanoke should know Roanoke College is launching the Southwest Virginia Scholars Award, an automatic $5,000-per-year scholarship for eligible local first-year students starting in fall 2027. Combined with state grants and other aid, high-need students from the region could see tuition dramatically reduced or even covered, expanding access to a local four-year education.
   

5. Virginia Tech, Hollins University among top schools in 2027 U.S. News & World Report (wfxrtv.com) — Roanoke-area readers can take pride as Hollins University in Roanoke County earns top value and private college rankings in U.S. News & World Report's 2027 list. Virginia Tech also scores highly for its engineering and overall programs, underscoring strong higher-education options within easy reach of local families considering college choices.
