Man Threatens Cab Driver With Knife In Vienna: Police

Police say the man didn't pay the cab driver and was later arrested at a resident's home.

VIENNA, VA—A man is facing charges after evading a cab fare and a string of resulting incidents in Vienna on June 17, police say.

It started around 12:17 a.m. when a cab driver dropped the man at the Wolf Trap Hotel. The man tried to pay the fare with credit cards but they were declined. The cab driver confronted the man when he tried to walk away, but the man allegedly threatened the driver with a knife.

The man fled from the hotel, and an immediate search with a K9 unit was unsuccessful. While searching for the man, police found his bags containing narcotics and personal belongings left in a resident's backyard in the 100 Block Mendon Lane SW.

He was next seen trying to enter an acquaintance's home in the 300 block of Nutley Street SW around 3:52 a.m. The acquaintance told him to leave and was threatened with a knife.

He was arrested after turning up around 8:22 a.m. in the 200 block of Paris Court SW. A woman who checked home security found the man on her deck. Police responded and determined he was involved in the earlier incidents and was wanted in Fairfax County on warrants for probation violation and failure to appear in court.

The 27-year-old man was charged with assault with a weapon, defrauding a cab driver, burglary with a weapon and assault from the earlier incidents.
