New Exhibit To Open At Freeman Store & Museum In Vienna

Visitors can see items from the 1960s and share their own memories of the decade.

VIENNA, VA — A new 1960s-themed exhibit is set to open at the Freeman Store & Museum in Vienna on Sunday, March 8. Historic Vienna, Inc. will hold the grand opening from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The exhibit features memorabilia from the decade U-2 pilot suit worn by Lt. Col. Sam Crouse, from iconic toys like GI Joe, Etch A Sketch, and Easy Bake Oven. Posters identify some of the key films from the 1960s such as "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "Rosemary’s Baby," as well as major events like the Vietnam War, civil rights movement, and integration.

Visitors can share their own stories on a message board accompanying the exhibit. The board will feature anecdotes, historical moments, and personal stories about the decade.

The exhibit joins the display called The Road to Women’s Rights: Where are We Now? This exhibit is on display for the rest of the year.

Historic Vienna, Inc.’s Freeman Store & Museum at 131 Church Street NE is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. Admission is free.
