UUCF "Love is Love" Banner Stolen

Congregational Response

OAKTON, VA, Sept. 5, 2018 – A banner preaching love and justice was stolen from the Hunter Mill Road entrance to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (UUCF) this week. The banner said: “In this congregation: Love Is Love; Black Lives Matter; Climate Change Is Real; No Human Being Is Illegal; Women’s Rights Are Human Rights; All Genders Are Whole, Holy and Good.” The banner had been hung in September 2017, during a special worship service (see attached photo).

“The banner is a way for us to publicly live our Unitarian Universalist values that call us to affirm and promote the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and justice, equity and compassion in human relations,” says Rev. David A. Miller, UUCF’s senior minister. “It was intended as a beacon of love to the community, especially those marginalized by public policies and a culture of ‘othering’.”

Rev. Miller says a new banner will be hung soon and firmly secured. “The banner serves as our congregation’s ongoing prayer of love for our community and the world.”
